In My Room

In My Room is the event branding and event collateral for a fictitious DIY music event. Co-conceived by myself and my fellow designer friend who loves DIY music, Cameron Reeder, the event features several house venues throughout the city of Bellingham, WA and one main stage where successful musicians in the scene perform, share with aspiring musicians about their experience, and push their sound out into the world.

The Process

The Mood

Before we started designing around our concept we created a set of values that we felt encompassed this event. From those values we derived an accompanying set of personality traits we wanted to see in the brand.

We used three of the personality traits we felt most represented our vision and made various mood boards, eventually landing on this one.

Once we settled on the mood board we used that to iterate —

and iterate —

and iterate —

and iterate —

— on the branding until we were satisfied with the look and feel.

The Outcome

The Wordmark

The wordmark was one of our primary focuses when it came to realizing the visual identity of this project. From the beginning we were both super excited by the idea that the logo could change shape according to the shape of the room. After testing different solutions, we decided  on this form which captured the hand drawn DIY feel we had already settled on in other parts of the branding, while being flexible enough to change shape.

The Posters

The final iteration of the poster was a series of three, each showcasing a main speaker for the event.

The Merch

Shirts to remember the show by — each a different brand color, much like the posters.

Blankets for sitting by the main stage outside.

Lanyards for those taking part in the events.

The Bump

A little teaser video to get people interested and informed about the event, made using doodles drawn by me and my partner to further underscore the DIY, homegrown mood of the entire event.

The Website

A mobile website for those at the event or those interested in joining in on the fun but who are on the move.

The desktop website which carries the branding into the digital realm.
